The 2025 Paideia International Academic Conference

Paideia’s International Academic Conference in Stockholm, May 5-7, 2025, will mark Paideia’s 25-year jubilee. 

The theme of the conference is “Living with Difference: Jewish Paradigms”. Through the lens of Jewish texts and traditions, the conference examines questions rooted in contemporary society with a grounding in the cultural heritage of Jewish civilization. Together with international scholars and Paideia alumni, we will explore how Jewish communities, as minorities within the wider society, have had to negotiate their difference in relation to the majority while simultaneously accommodating others within their own communities.

In addition, the conference will reflect Paideia’s vision of contributing to the invigoration and strengthening of Jewish life and culture in Europe. Twenty-five years after its inception, Paideia has graduated close to 1,000 alumni who are actively revitalizing and re-imagining European Jewish culture. At the conference, Paideia alumni will present their projects and ideas.

The conference is a collaboration between Paideia, Södertörn University, Uppsala University, the Swedish Holocaust Museum and the Jewish Community of Stockholm, and is generously supported by Diane and Howard Wohl, the Foundation for Baltic and East European Studies, Riksbankens Jubileumsfond and the Clas Groschinsky Foundation.

The conference coincides with the Stockholm celebration of 250 years of Jewish life in Sweden, May 5-9, 2025. This city-wide jubilee will celebrate Swedish Jewish life and experiences throughout the centuries with cultural events and more during the week.
