Workshop "Debates on Antisemitism in Scholarship and the Arts"

Israel and Middle Eastern Studies

On October 25, Simchat Torah, Hito Steyerl will give a lecture at the Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies (HCTS) on the topic of "The Empty Centre".

This will be followed the next day at 6 pm by the opening of the exhibition at the Heidelberger Kunstverein. From the program of the association:

"Normality" focuses on earlier works by Hito Steyerl. In these, the artist examines the various social dynamics and tensions that arose as a result of German reunification in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Steyerl's video essays and documentaries explore the political interaction of new nationalism and neoliberalism at a time when West German managers were gutting East Germany like a bankrupt company, Berlin's new center became a capital and investment project based on wage dumping, and politicians from the bourgeois camp reignited the Leitkultur debate."

At the HfJS itself, the workshop "Debates on Antisemitism in Scholarship and the Arts" will take place all day on October 28 from 9 am to 6 pm.

You can register for the workshop until the 21st of October here: ambivalent-enmity(at)hcts.uni-heidelberg.de
