  • Processing of your personal data in connection with your studies

Your IP address is processed by our web host (processor) when you access our website; without processing your IP address, we would not be able to display the website in your web browser. Your IP address is briefly stored in the web server's volatile memory while the website is being transmitted to you; it is then immediately anonymized. The processing of the IP address in this context is based on § 3 BlnDSG.

  • Use of our web forms

You are free to use our web forms (e.g. contact form) at any time. You enter the personal data that you consider necessary. We need this information to contact you (e.g. your name, your e-mail address and your message). We process the personal data you send us in this way to process your request: e.g. to answer your inquiry (legal basis § 3 BlnDSG) or a registration for a course (legal basis § 12 LHG).

  • Your obligation to provide personal data

If we act on your behalf (e.g. in the context of an inquiry), we can only do so if you provide us with all the necessary personal data - e.g. your contact information (e.g. name and email address). If you do not wish to do so, we may not be able to act on your behalf.

  • We obtain the personal data from these sources

We process the personal data that we receive from you. In addition, if this is permissible and necessary, we process personal data that we have already received from you (e.g. as part of a registration for a course). We will be happy to provide you with further details on a case-by-case basis.

  • Your rights

If you would like to know what personal data we have stored about you, we will tell you, as you have a right to information in accordance with Art. 15 GDPR.

If you inform us that personal data is incorrect, we must correct it. You have a right to rectification in accordance with Art. 16 GDPR in conjunction with. § 24 BlnDSG.

You have a right to erasure of your personal data in accordance with Art. 17 GDPR in conjunction with § 25 BlnDSG.

In rare cases (e.g. if it is not clear whether personal data is correct or incorrect or if we would like to delete your personal data but you do not want this), you can request the restriction of the processing of your personal data. You have the right to restrict the processing of your personal data in accordance with Art. 18 GDPR.

You have a right to object in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR.

You can withdraw your consent to the processing of your personal data at any time with effect for the future. If you object to the processing of your personal data, this will not affect the lawfulness of the processing based on your consent prior to the objection.

You have a right to data portability in accordance with Art. 20 GDPR.

If you make use of your rights, this will not normally cost you anything. Please contact us in such a case.

If you have a complaint or a question about data protection, please contact us (point 1 above) or our data protection officer (point 2 above). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

  • Recipients to whom we pass on your personal data

We use your personal data within the Heidelberg School of Jewish Studies to fulfill our contractual and legal obligations and permitted rights.

If necessary and permitted or required by law, we will disclose your personal data to third parties or processors. Processors process personal data on our behalf and exclusively in accordance with our instructions. Third parties or processors are, for example, authorities (e.g. the Foreigners' Registration Office), our IT service provider (Heidelberg University), cooperating universities as part of a joint degree program.

  • We store your personal data for as short a period as possible

We store your personal data for as long as it is necessary to fulfill our contractual obligation or a legal obligation. Your personal data will then be deleted as soon as we no longer need it and no further storage is required by law. For personal data transmitted via the contact form, this is the case when the respective request has been dealt with, i.e. when it can be inferred from the circumstances that the matter in question has been conclusively clarified.

Your personal data will not be deleted as long as it is required for the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims.

Your data will not be transferred to countries outside the EU or to international organizations. We do not carry out processing based on automated decision-making. We do not carry out profiling (automated processing with the aim of evaluating certain personal aspects).
