Film Screening

The Rhine flows into the Mediterranean
Israel 2021 | Director: Offer Avnon | 95 min. | Documentary film | German/Polish/Hebrew original with German subtitles.

In associatively edited images and conversations in Germany, Poland and Israel, the film explores traumas, mechanisms of repression and attempts at understanding. It poses questions about the possible dialogue between relatives of perpetrators and victims and explores how identity, belonging, consciousness and perception are shaped. As the son of a Polish survivor of the Shoah, Offer Avnon lived in Germany for ten years and was never able to forget the Holocaust. After his return to Israel, Avnon looks at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from a new perspective, which manifests itself in the social space of Haifa.

Guest: Director Offer Avnon (born 1970 in Haifa, Israel, studied acting at the Nissan Nativ Acting Studio in Jerusalem and visual communication design at the Holon Institute of Technology. Avnon took part in a one-year training programme at the Institute for Film and Television at Tel Aviv University. He lived in Cologne for ten years. He worked in various projects with theatres, street installations, short videos and photography)
