On 6 May, the Jewish resistance against the persecution of Jews by Nazi Germany is commemorated, while 8 May is regarded as the day of liberation, as it was on this day in 1945 that the German Wehrmacht surrendered unconditionally.
We still have the opportunity not only to commemorate and remember, but also to enter into dialogue with contemporary and second-hand witnesses. Against the growing distance to the historical events, which allows us to relativise or even forget, we would like to invite you to a conversation with Rita Althausen, member of the board of the Jewish Religious Community of Baden and former chairwoman of the Jewish Community of Mannheim. Rita Althausen is the daughter of Oskar Althausen, who managed to escape from the Gurs internment camp to Palestine. Althausen returned to Mannheim with his family in 1951.
The event is organised in cooperation with the European Union of Jewish Students, Zikaron Basalon, the Meeting Point for Holocaust Survivors of the Welfare Office of Jews in Germany, the Witnesses of Contemporary Witnesses e. V. and the Association of Jewish Students Baden e. V..
No pre-booking is necessary and admission is free.
