Written Term Papers

Regular submission deadline: Term papers (proseminar, seminar and advanced seminar papers) and other written assignments must be submitted to the course instructor by the end of the respective semester (March 31 or September 30). The correction period is two weeks.

A certificate of achievement and the HfJS declaration of plagiarism must be enclosed with the work.

The following information sheet regulates the scope of written assignments:

  • Deadline extension: In accordance with the decision of the professorship and the Office of the Dean of Studies, term papers and other written assignments must be submitted by the end of the semester; the correction period is two weeks. A one-off extension until the end of the following lecture period - with a corresponding four-week correction period - is possible in consultation with the respective lecturer. Thereafter, a further extension of the deadline can only be agreed with the lecturer, stating valid reasons, and the Office of the Dean of Studies must be informed.

Written term papers

Scope:

  • Proseminar: approx. 10-12 pages
  • Seminar: approx. 12-15 pages
  • Advanced seminar: approx. 20-25 pages

related to the text part, i.e. introduction to conclusion (without cover sheet, outline, appendices, bibliography and other materials)

Formatting
The term paper should be formatted as follows for the purpose of comparability:

  • Font: Main text Times New Roman 12 pt, footnotes 10 pt
  • Margins: 2.5 cm left/right/top and 2 cm bottom
  • Line spacing: 1.5 lines, for quotation paragraphs (more than three lines) 1 line

These specifications are for guidance only. Lecturers may also set different guidelines.

Submission
The thesis must be submitted to the course instructor by the end of the respective semester (March 31 or September 30). A one-time extension until the end of the following lecture period is possible in consultation with the lecturer.
A certificate of achievement and the HfJS declaration of plagiarism must be enclosed with the thesis.
