Myths and points of contention in the Israel-Palestine conflict

Press Release

"Which river and which sea?" is the title of a brochure published a few days ago by the Anne Frank Educational Centre in cooperation with Prof. Dr. Johannes Becke and Tom Würdemann, M.A.. It is the result of "joint reflection": "After October 7, the Anne Frank Educational Center received hundreds of requests for training courses and workshops. The demand for knowledge, options for action and advice was immense in schools and institutions, among private individuals and the public. Political scientist Johannes Becke from the Heidelberg University of Jewish Studies also received many inquiries. One of these came from the Anne Frank Educational Center - here, too, there was a need for an in-depth exchange on the Middle East conflict in autumn 2023. Some of the myths presented here were discussed together in an internal workshop. This brochure is now the expanded and systematically compiled result."

It takes the best-known or loudest claims and analyzes them scientifically - refuting many, partially invalidating others - but questioning all of them. The brochure explains the conflict in a well-founded and factual manner without neglecting the ambitions and aspirations of the actors or ignoring the people affected.

For all those who have been reaching for a handout for a long time and are grasping at nothing: Here is a compact summary of the most important facts.
