Art and War
This series of events is dedicated to the life and work of the poet Selma Merbaum, whose poems Hilde Domin found "beautiful to cry about".
At the center are 57 wonderful poems that were saved through the horrors of time, while Selma died at the age of 18 in an SS labor camp in the winter of 1942. They stand as a metaphor for the ambiguity of all art: effectiveness and futility.
With this theatrical research trip, the Ak.Theater confronts increasing xenophobia and anti-Semitism.
The university is one of the cooperation partners.
This project is made possible by project funding from the Baden-Württemberg Foundation and the Landesverband Freie Tanz- und Theaterschaffende Baden-Württemberg (LaFT BW) e.V. as well as the Cultural Office of the City of Heidelberg, Sparkasse Heidelberg and Heidelberger Volksbank.
The first joint event will take place on May 21 at 7 pm at the HfJS:
"Wund ist mein Glück". Selma Merbaum and German-Jewish poetry in Bukovina - a lecture by Prof. Dr. Marcel Krings (Heidelberg University)
