Penn Graduate Conference in Jewish Studies, February 28–March 1, 2027: Jewish Life between Locality and Mobility

The Jewish Studies Graduate Conference at the University of Pennsylvania seeks to explore the relationship between locality and mobility in Jewish life across historical periods and geographical spaces. This interdisciplinary conference will serve as a forum for graduate students to share their research, receive feedback from Penn faculty and fellow graduate students, and learn about ongoing work in the field from peers around the world. We aim to foster a community of emerging scholars who will help shape the global future of Jewish Studies.
Literarisches Projektstipendium zur Großen Landesausstellung „Mittendrin. Jüdisches Leben im Südwesten“ 2027

In Kooperation mit diesem landesweiten Netzwerk und dem Haus der Geschichte Baden-Württemberg schreibt das Stuttgarter Schriftstellerhaus für das Jahr 2027 ein literarisches Projektstipendium aus. Das Sonderformat richtet sich an junge Schriftstellerinnen und Schriftsteller. Bewerben können sich junge Autorinnen und Autoren (Prosa, Essayistik, literarische Reportage), die folgende Kriterien erfüllen:
- Literarische Qualifikation: Erste eigenständige Veröffentlichungen (auch in Zeitschriften oder Anthologien) bzw. ein nachweisbares literarisches Talent.
- Thematisches Interesse: Hohes Interesse an der Vermittlung jüdischer Geschichte, Kultur und Gegenwart im Südwesten sowie Offenheit für den interkulturellen Dialog.
- Digitale Vermittlungskompetenz: Bereitschaft und Fähigkeit, die Reise und den Entstehungsprozess des Buches aktiv, kreativ und eigenständig auf digitalen Kanälen (Blog, Instagram) zu begleiten.
- Flexibilität & Mobilität: Bereitschaft zu einer intensiven Reisetätigkeit durch Baden-Württemberg von März bis Mai 2027 sowie zur zeitweisen Annahme von lokalen Gastfreundschaften (die Partner im Land agieren teils als temporäre Gastgeber/innen).
Moritz Steinschneider Research Prize

Moritz Steinschneider is regarded as one of the most important historians of Jewish literature. His pioneering scholarship made a vast number of previously little-known or inaccessible texts available to the scholarly world, and many of his works remain indispensable reference tools to this day.
The Moritz Steinschneider Research Prize honors Steinschneider’s outstanding contribution to foundational research in Jewish Studies while supporting emerging scholars who continue this tradition of scholarship. The prize is intended for doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and scholars working toward their habilitation whose research makes an outstanding contribution to the identification, cataloguing, editing, and analysis of premodern Jewish primary sources. Eligible works, including dissertations and habilitation theses, may involve the identification of previously unknown texts in Hebrew, Aramaic, Judeo-Arabic, or other Jewish languages; their description and bibliographic cataloguing; or the preparation of scholarly editions and translations. Particular consideration is given to research that makes previously inaccessible or insufficiently studied primary sources available to a wider scholarly readership.

The Association for Central European Jewish History and Genealogy (CEJHG), in cooperation with the Center for Jewish Studies at Central European University (CEU) and the Hungarian Jewish Museum and Archives, is organizing an international conference: “Counting Families, Controlling Lives: Jewish Demography, Family, and State Policy in Central Europe”.
This year’s conference will investigate the rich and complex history of Jewish communities in the lands of the former Habsburg Empire and its successor states by combining traditional historical research with genealogical methodologies and digital tools. This interdisciplinary approach allows scholars to reconstruct family networks, community structures, migration patterns, cross-border relations, social mobility, citizenship and restored citizenship, and holocaust studies, offering new insights into Jewish life in Central Europe.

Leo Baeck Institute - David Baumgardt Memorial Fellowship application

The Center for the Study of Antisemitism at New York University invites applications for the position of Postdoctoral Associate in Antisemitism Studies beginning September 1, 2027. The fellowship is a one-year research position with the possibility of renewal for another year. Eligible applicants must have their Ph.D in hand by August 31, 2027, and must have completed their Ph.D within the last five years prior to the start date of September 1, 2027.
Candidates whose research focuses on any aspect of historical or contemporary antisemitism and working within any of the relevant disciplines of the humanities or social sciences are welcome to apply. Candidates must have already demonstrated a record of original and compelling research in their area of specialization and an ability to work with the relevant languages and skill sets. We welcome applicants whose work opens up new vistas in the field whether by examining local case studies, regional or global trends, political or legal developments, new or underexplored source material, or novel theoretical approaches.

Das Akademienprogramm ist das gemeinsame Forschungsprogramm der deutschen Akademien der Wissenschaften. Es dient der langfristigen Grundlagenforschung in den eisteswissenschaften und den historisch arbeitenden Rechts-, Wirtschafts- und Gesellschaftswissenschaften. Auch Forschungsfragen und Materialien im Überschneidungsfeld dieser Bereiche mit naturwissenschaftlichen Disziplinen können im Rahmen des Akademienprogramms bearbeitet werden. Die zentrale Aufgabe des Akademienprogramms besteht in der Erschließung, Sicherung und Erforschung kultureller Überlieferungen von herausragender fachwissenschaftlicher und gesellschaftlicher Relevanz.
